Well, it’s official, and I can finally make our announcement! We are building a brand new studio! Since we started in 2005 I have run my business from my home. While this was great for the beginning, we have out grown our space. As most photographers do, we will still be located at our home, except this building, while attached, will be totally separate. It will be designed to be a photography studio with an office, showing area, changing room, bathroom, and of course, the studio itself.

We decided to build instead of rent for a number of reasons. 1. The overhead for rental space is not cheap. Since we won’t have the higher costs of a downtown store front, we can price ourselves very competitively. 2. Family. I’ve been given this amazing opportunity to work where I live, to be here for my kids and watch them grow up while they are young. Most dads don’t have this luxury, and I wasn’t about to give that up. :)

We have several visions for the studio. Including a more controlled environment for ad and commercial work, plus, studio rental opportunities for other area photographers, and marketing/ad firms. We will also have some of the best photographic equipment to give our clients the best quality possible.

Having this space opens up huge opportunities for us to grow in business and in photography. It also helps position us to become one of the areas most sought after visual artists. We are still working out the exact specs, but I have a meeting with the contractor tomorrow to hopefully sort everything out, and we hope to have it open by late summer/early fall.

We are more than excited about this, and words cannot express how much we appreciate all of the support we have received from our family, friends, and especially our clients. You, our clients make us. I am ‘self-employed’. This is totally wrong. I am employed by everyone who has ever used our services or purchased our art. I’m supposed to be my own boss, but in reality, I have well over 200 bosses and counting, and all of you are awesome. Thank you for not only helping me achieve my dreams, but for helping me to support and provide for my family by doing what I love. I hesitate to say ‘what I’m passionate about’, because, while I do love photography, it is not my ‘passion’. God, my family, and my kids, are my passion; everything I do, I do for them. I’m just fortunate enough to have a gift that allows me to see and then create beauty through photography, and I’m even more fortunate to have amazing clients who share my love for art and beauty. Thank you.

Well, like I said in my last post the senior session I had on Halloween had to be finished up on Sunday. We met at 8 am at the church we both actually attend. It is a beautiful old building built around 1919 as a nickelodeon type theatre. It is huge! It took me literally years to find all of the hidden rooms and nooks and crannies, most of them quite creepy to be honest. :) This building has so much potential for some awesome shots, but because we only had an hour until church services started we just used the roof and the old managers office. If you are interested in the architecture of the church and want to see photos there are a few on their website at www.bridgeoflife.org. I think I actually took most of those photos, but there aren’t enough to do it justice. But this post isn’t about the church or the building, it’s about these senior photos and this killer grad.

I loved her shoes. She said they were her favorites and by the look of them they look well used. Very cool.

These photos were so fun and ironic on so many levels. First off they were shot in the church in a room that is not currently used, but has been used as a Sunday School classroom. Second, her dad used to be a pastor. Third she used to attend a private school. I could go on, but I think you get the point. So I thought it would be fun to make it look like she got in trouble, was by herself in detention, and that she had a little attitude about it. I think she did a good job. :) Also, the photo right above this one is kind of poking a little fun at the typical senior shoot with the softness and way she is posed. ;) I amuse myself way to easily.

This photo was obviously not taken at the church. :) This was taken at her home with her very sweet dog.

As I said in my previous post, I could post and write about these photos all day. L was so much fun to work with; we had a blast! I ended up shooting literally hundreds of photos that ended up being over 10 gigs of data! Thanks, L, you did a great job! :)

I said in yesterday’s post that I had a senior session today, and it was awesome! We went into the woods to the Appalachian Trail and she was in last years prom dress. The session just rocked all get out. :) While we were on the trail we met a hiker who was traveling from Maine to Georgia. He started in July and only has about 990 miles to go. LOL! He also wanted his photo taken with L, the senior, he said he likes to document unusual things on the trail. Well, a pretty girl in a prom dress in the middle of the woods is pretty unusual. Anyway, here are the snaps I promised.

I thought the photo above had a kind of fairy tale feel to it. Like Snow White or something. I can see Prince Charming kind of appearing from the end of the trail. Ok, so maybe that sounds a little lame, but it does have a Disney ad feel to it, though. :)

This was my 3 year old’s favorite. He was sitting with me when I was working on it. He kept asking to see the Thomas picture, as in Thomas the Tank Engine.

These are just a handful and I could have worked on them all night! We didn’t even finish our session, so we will be going out again this Sunday. I hope to add those to the blog as well. Please leave your comments and let me know what you think!
