Anita and Scott met each other in college.  She is a teacher at the school my son will be attending in the fall, so hopefully she will have him and my daughter in a few years.  :)  Scott just left NBC 25, where he was a reporter, so if you recognize him, well, that’s why.  :)  I have a good feeling about these two and their future.  They are two of the nicest people I have ever met, and it’s obvious that they love each other.  Below are some of their photos.  I ended up with 60 to post, so lots to see!  :)

At the reception, Emily’s dad spoke, and I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house.  :)  I believe that most dads will always see his daughter as 2-5 years old.  An age where daddy is her greatest hero, and she is his beautiful little princess.  On her wedding day, all he can see is this little girl running to see him to wrap those little arms around him, to give him a little kiss, or to twirl around to show him her new dress, or the new way she has her hair.  As a father, nothing is sweeter than your little girl and how much she wants your approval, and there is no greater joy, or gift to her, than to tell her she is beautiful.  On her wedding day nothing has changed, except, it is the last time she will ask for his approval.  The last time a father can really reassure her by saying, ‘you are beautiful’.  From that point on, she will ask those words from her husband.  This has happened at every wedding I’ve photographed.  It’s an unspoken human tradition that seems to transcend race, culture, and religion.  At that moment the torch is passed from father to husband.  Sometimes, it is quick, with no visible emotion, other times, it’s well planned, full of tears and joy.  But, every bride always asks her daddy, ‘how do I look’, and her daddy, as loving as he can says, ‘you look beautiful’.  Sometimes her dad will just nod, but the meaning is the same.  For that moment, she is his little princess again twirling in her new dress, new shoes, and pretty hair.  It’s the last time she will do this for him, wanting those words, ‘you are beautiful’.  It is at that moment he realizes that all of those other times where just a practice run for her wedding day.

The studio is just one part of an overall strategy of growth.  We are branching out to larger areas than weddings, and even photography.  By fall we will be making a very big announcement that will majorly expand our reach and services.  I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about the future of the ‘small’ photography business over the last year or so.  As photography equipment becomes better and better, the equipment is also becoming more and more affordable.  Good or bad, this has flooded the market with ‘photographers’.  Some are good, some, not so much.  :)  What does this mean for the career photographer, and especially the wedding photographer?  It means that good is no longer good enough.  It means you must be great.  It means you must continue to push into your art, master your craft, and consistently deliver ‘wow’ images; all while giving the client the best experience possible during and after the shoot.  Our goal is to deliver awesome images faster and better than anyone else.  We are working hard at this goal, and are trying to improve our turn around times.  The extra space the studio will provide, will allow us to expand our services, and, hopefully, our team.
